Gabriele Manoli

is a Tenure Track Assistant Professor, Laboratory of Urban and Environmental Systems teaching Environmental Sciences and Engineering at EPFL, main focus on soil science and climate and water sensitive design. He received a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering Sciences in 2014 from the University of Padova (Italy) and from 2014 to 2016 he was a Postdoctoral Associate at the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University (USA). From 2016 to 2019, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at ETH Zurich (Switzerland) and between 2019 and 2022 he was a Lecturer at University College London (UK). His research focuses on the study of cities as complex adaptive systems to describe their multi-scale dynamics, quantify their interactions with the biosphere, and guide their evolution towards healthier and more sustainable futures. Given the complexity of such problems, his research crosses the boundaries between multiple disciplines, from meteorology to ecology, mobility, statistical physics, and complex system science.
