Urban Agroecology in the City of ZürichFinal Showcase ETH Zürich

We were delighted to host the Final Showcase at the Dunkelhölzli Grosse Gewächshaus in Altstetten along the foothills of Uetliberg. The presentations by students were complemented by an exhibition of their work and the presentation of the joint model and map, which focused on a common vision for the whole Uetliberg flank. The students presented their agroecological visions for the foothills of Uetliberg, including a plateau of resistance at Altstetten, a Neu-Allmende for Albisrieden, Cultivated Slopes integrated with family gardens at Friesenberg, a quiet oasis and new Social Terraces at Leimbach and finally an Agroecological Niche capable of spreading across the city beginning in Wollishofen. All projects were grounded in agriculture and recreational land that is predominantly owned and leased by Grün Stadt Zürich.

We were joined by Grün Stadt Zürich (GSZ), including Christine Bräm, Director of GSZ, Ingo Golz (Head of Planning and Consulting), Reto Mohr (Head of Forestry, Agriculture and Leasing), Bernhard Koch (Head of Agriculture), Lone Severin (Head of Planning and Open Space Planning) Katharina Merkel (Team Leader, Open Space Planning) Marlies Wächter (Head of Real Estate, Gardens and Leases) Anja Frost (Project Manager Agriculture) Darja Crnek (Project Manager, Open Space Planning).

We were also delighted to be joined by Ueli Ansorge (Farmer at Stadtrandacker), Dr. Nitin Bathla (Lecturer and postdoctoral researcher at University of Zürich), Ute Schneider (Architect & Urban Designer, Partner KCAP), Irmi Siedl (Head of Economics and Social Sciences Research Unit, WSL), and Cornelia Staffelbach (Gardener at Grünhölzli).

Thank you to everyone for their contributions and time!
