Still Life, Still Landscapes: Reclaiming the Intangible Heritage of Pfannenstiel's KulturlandschaftMatteo Bischof, Iason Giannopoulos, and Fotis Panagopoulos

Protection laws implemented by the official authorities try to preserve the highly valued qualities of the Swiss landscape. The focus of protection is on the continuity of the image. Villages in the countryside are gradually becoming veritable metropolitan residential suburbs disconnected from the cultivation of the land. The real everyday life is thus concealed behind a reassuring historic image.

The Goldküste used to be an agricultural landscape consisting predominantly of vineyards. Today it is inhabited by the higher classes of society, a continuation from the past, however real estate practices have changed. A number of proud owners of this land want to preserve their properties and also ensure the continuity of their privileged access to the lake, at many times going into loggerheads with the canton's own plans to create an elongated public promenade for the Metro region.

Paradigms for reconnecting the population in the fringes of settlements with farmers, agricultural production and landscape protection. Pioneering organisations and foundations through collaboration and constant engagement with local actors and the cantonal authorities, overcome the conflicts and barriers of a highly individualised and commodified territory.

Our project aims to make land is available to the public. The landscape is rewilded by extending the newly formed agroecological networks into a tight and contested territory.
